Abstract

(Article One) The text of article (71) of the consumer protection law, promulgated by law no. 181 of the year 2018 shall be replaced with the following text: Article (71): Whoever violates the provision of article (8) of this law shall be liable to confinement for a period not less than one year and a fine not less than one hundred and fifty thousand pounds and not more than three million pounds or the equivalent of the value of the goods subject matter of the crime, whichever is greater. In the event of recidivism, the violator shall be liable to confinement for a period not less than two years and not more than five years and the minimum and maximum thresholds of the penalty shall be doubled. In all cases, the items subject matter of the crime shall be seized and the court shall order their confiscation, and the closure of the store or the place where the crime was committed for a period not exceeding six months. The court ruling shall be published in two widespread daily newspapers at the expense of the convict. The court may order the cancellation of the license of the store or the place where the crime was committed.
